Translation of a book is not only painstaking, but also creative work.

It is difficult to imagine our modern life without translators. Without them, we would never have been able to read the works of foreign authors or watch a foreign film, even on YouTube there would be much less interesting things from all over the world. But literally 20 years ago, all of the above was not as accessible as it is now.

It may seem strange, but even to this day it is Christian religious literature that is the most popular among translated books. And this is largely due to the Jehovah’s Witnesses, whose preachers number about 8 million worldwide.

There are also other books that, due to their popularity, have been translated into dozens of different world languages. According to research by UNESCO, the most translated author is Agatha Christie, the British author of detective novels loved by so many. By the way, in many English-speaking countries, due to the very popular political correctness (PC culture) in them, the novel was published under other names – “And There Were No One”.

The philosophical fairy tale “The Little Prince” was translated into more than 300 languages, moreover, it is obligatory in the school course. The tale was written in 1943 by the French writer and, in addition, the professional pilot Antoine de Saint-Exupery. The work was translated not only into common languages, but also into a variety of Arabic – Hassaniya, which has the status of a state language in Mauritania and Western Sahara.

No less translatable plot is the book of the French adventure fiction writer Jules Verne, namely “Twenty Thousand Leagues Under the Sea”, which was published in 1869 and translated into more than 170 languages. The Russian reader is also familiar with the novel under other names, such as: “Eighty thousand miles under water” or “Eighty thousand kilometers under water.”

Among modern authors, the most translated are the internationally popular American horror writer Stephen King and the British writer JK Rowling, who created the image of the young wizard Harry Potter and the wizarding school Hogwarts.
